Geography, Weather and Clothing
Ancient Rome was built at the lowest point, which is the city of Pantheon (approx 13m above sea level). In Summer it is very humid so you will need to pack lots of shorts and t-shirts; but the Romans would wear 'togas' with sandals. In Winter it is mild weather, so pack the same clothes as in Summer, just bring some knee length pants. Rome was built on hills, near rivers and close to mountains; because of the close proximity to the rivers, they are able to access cleaner water easily.
Religion and Beliefs
Ancient Romans believed in many gods; Some didn't have such a strong purpose as others, e.g Cloacina, goddess of the sewers, while several had stronger purposes, e.g Neptune, god of the sea. The most important god was Jupiter (image on the side) he was the king of all Gods, who ruled with his wife Juno, goddess of the sky.
After reign of Emperor Augustus, (27 BCE - AD 14) the emperor was now considered a god, and was worshiped on special occasions. Each god then had their own special festival day, which was usually a public holiday.
Some festival days would include: Jupiter's festivals are held once a month, Parentalia was held on the 13th-21st of February. Here the Romans remembered their dead especially their parents, in the process of heavy drinking. On the last day of Parentalia's festival, they would put wine, milk and flowers on their parents graves.

Family Life
In Ancient Rome, families had a strong social position in the early stages of rome. The Roman families were organised as a patriarchy -it means the whole authority rested in the fathers hands. Usual famiies consisted of a: father, mother, single daughters and married sons with their wives, children and slaves. The fathers authority ranged over all the family members; in the remote past, he could even decide the children's life or death. The son couldn't own their own property until the father had died.
