GREECY CHIP'S GUIDE TO SURVIVING IN ANCIENT GREECE
GEOGRAPHY
Now, Ancient Greece is located in the Mediterranean. It was in Europe on the same land it is today. The landscape in Ancient Greece was almost made up of mountains alone, there was not much flat land at the time. This made it hard to farm and travel because of the journey. Make sure you are fit and ready to do all the climbing and walking because there were no cars in Ancient Greece
An Ancient Greek summer was always hot, it hardly rained in this season (so make sure you pack short sleeves). The rain in winter was sometimes torrential, so if you are going in winter bring some wet resistant clothes. Natural resources helped as the rich soil was filled with minerals that surrounded the mountains in Ancient Greece. This was great for crops in the winter. The rain in winter was perfect for growing crops. In summer, though it was hot and never rained, it made it hard for crops to grow. Mountains also made it hard to mine.

RELIGION
The Ancient Greeks believed in many Gods. They were in human form but with super strength and endless beauty. Each city was believed to have a God to protect them. The Greeks made statues of their Gods out of gold and a variety of marbles. They used these statues to praise the Gods and ask for their help. Make sure you know what God does what before you go because it could be quite awkward not knowing the Gods.
There religion was organised by sacrificing animals. In ancient Greece, Gods were the ones in charge of everything. People sacrificed things such as cows, sheep, goats, pigs, bulls and sometimes humans (Pssst. Stay away from sacrificing ceremonies). Greeks also believed that everybody had a spirit and when they passed, their spirit left their body. Relatives and friends would come to mourn their loss. They were buried in a coffin-like casket, depending on how rich or known the family was, determined how well the coffin was crafted.

POLITICS
In Ancient Greece, the person in charge changed many times in 800BC. Most of the Ancient Greek States were governed by groups of rich land owners called aristocrats, meaning best people. In 750BC, this was the archaic period which Aeropagus was in charged. The policies were controlled through three magistrates called archons. In 500BC, democracy was first introduced during this period by aristocrat, called Cleistheness, who was from a family of the alcmaeonids in 508BC.
After fighting in the civil war for two years, the Greeks used the help of spartans to secure the power. For thirty years, Pericles was the leader of Athens. He was not a monarch or despot. The citizens of Athens voted for him year after year. Pericles declared that Athens was democratic. Citizens had more rights in the Greek cities than any other city states, they could have almost done anything they wanted to do. Children that were born in Athens lived there for their who entire life, and were unable to become citizens if their parents came from another place. Slaves in Greece were able to pay for themselves to get out of slavery if they saved up enough money to buy themselves out of slavery.
