Daily Life!
The rich families lived differently to the poorer families because the rich family would be able to afford school for their children and good meals, whereas the poorer families wouldn't be able to afford much.
The rich men would begin their day by putting on their clothes (toga) then eating breakfast which includes some bread, cheese and honey. They would then go to work. After lunch time they would either go for a nap or go for a bath in the public bathtubs before ending off the day. The poorer men would work as craftsmen, farmers or shopkeepers. They would be up at dawn and since they don't get a lot of money, they can only afford a small amount of bread. The poor men would work for the whole day and then come back home for dinner. After dinner they would go to sleep to get up early for the next day. The rich women are supposed to stay home and do housework like cleaning and washing.
Not many women were allowed to get jobs. The rich women would start their day with breakfast, then they would go and fix themselves up (putting on makeup, doing their hair). They would also start to clean up the house and order slaves to get dinner ready for her family. The poorer women would wake up at the same time as her husband and would work in the fields or in the house all day.
Rich boys would go to school at the age of 7 and they would stay in school longer than girls did. They would learn how to read, write in Latin and Greek, do math, and write speeches. These skills are important for the future jobs the boys might have. The poorer boys did not go to school but instead he would help his family in working.
Girls would learn how to spin, weave, cook, and clean at school for when they get married but the poorer girls would learn all those at home. At the age of 14 girls would have an arranged marriage (arranged by their fathers). She would go and live with her new husbands family. Boys were not allowed to marry until they were 15 years old.
